Announcing the launch of the new Espiner SuitORpass

Espiner SuitORpass Launch

Fannin Ltd are proud to introduce the new Espiner SuitORpass, the disposable suture passer and guide. Port-site complications can occur in 1% to 6% of cases. Since the first report of hernia development at a trocar site after laparoscopy, many techniques and devices have been introduced into practice to minimize this risk*.

The SuitORpass disposable suture passer with guide can be used in the closure of the fascia as it accurately passes the suture material through all fascial layers, potentially preventing incisional hernias. The SuitORpass facilitates the complete and secure closure of operative incisions of 10mm or larger, subsequently reducing the risk of developing a hernia postoperatively.

If you wish to learn more about the SuitORpass please visit the laparoscopic instruments section of our website for further information or contact the office for details.

Our Pandemic Continuity Group are continually reviewing, planning and taking the necessary actions in consideration of the changing situation. This group is currently meeting daily to review national and international updates and revised guidelines. Our businesses have continuity plans in place and these are under continuous review to ensure continuity of supply and services.

Morcellation Containment Bag

Why contain Morcellation?
  • May reduce disseminated malignancy rates
  • Sac creates chamber to isolate tissue for morcellation
  • Prevent bowel injury
  • May reduces risk of Endometriosis & Peritoneal Myomatosis
  • Reduces procedure time. Tissue/blood residue is contained and removed on sac extraction
  • Better patient experience & reduced stay in hospital
  • Improves clinician confidence
Features:
Background

Morcellation refers to the division of tissue into smaller pieces or fragments and is often used during  Gynaecological laparoscopic surgeries to facilitate the removal of tissue through small incision sites. When used for a hysterectomy or myomectomy in women with uterine fibroids, laparoscopic power morcellation poses a risk of spreading unsuspected cancerous tissue, notably uterine sarcomas, beyond the uterus. This was found to be at a risk of 1 in 350 patients as quoted by the FDA (www.FDA.gov 2014), however, others have reported that this risk is 1 in 2000 (Pritts et al.2015). Yet, many women choose to undergo laparoscopic hysterectomy or myomectomy due to benefits such as a shorter post-operative recovery time and hospitalization, a reduced risk of infection, decreased bleeding and decreased post-operative pain.

The Espiner ECO-T Containment Bag (which is CE marked) includes an accessory sleeve, allowing the surgeon to morcellate within the sac, thus entirely contained, under direct visualization (by placing the laparoscope through the accessory sleeve). As the tissue is totally contained during the process, this minimizes the risk of potentially spreading the morcellated tissue. Post procedure, the sac and contents are extracted from the abdomen, and the surgeon is able complete the procedure without the need to find lost morcellated pieces.

IMSTA 2016 Award

IMSTA 2016 award for most innovative product

The Espiner Morcellation Containment System was designed in 2014, after the FDA published guidance on the use of laparoscopic powered morcellators in women with unsuspected uterine sarcomas and the spread of cancerous tissue within the abdomen & uterus.

This sac (which is CE marked and available for sale in Europe) includes a secondary port, allowing the surgeon capture the tissue and safely morcellate within the sac under direct visualization. The tissue is contained during the process, minimising the risk of contamination from excised tissue. Post procedure, the sac and contents are extracted from the body, without having to go in to ‘clean up’.

The Irish Medical & Surgical Trade Association Annual awards ceremony took place on 3rd October 2016, where Fannin were proud winners of the most innovative product award.

Improved Kombi Introducer System

Espiner medical launches new & improved Kombi Introducer system for its popular 10mm and new 12mm Master E-Sac range.

Espiner announced the launch of its new, precision engineered, injection moulded, introducer system at its Distributor meeting held to coincide with Medica 2013 in Düsseldorf.

The new and improved design incorporates the following features:

New tactile markers:

  • ‘TOP’on the finger-loop means you can tell by, touch alone, the orientation of the mouth
  • Espiner logo on one side of the valve block to aid orientation.
  • Now embossed on the delivery system;

Better control:

  • Finger loop now locks into to the valve block, giving  you one-handed control of the sac and cannula.
  • New ‘soft feel’ grip strips on the side of the valve block prevent slipping and lets you handle the instrument securely – even with wet gloves.

 Safer and more secure:

  • The blue loop has been replaced with a simple but strong button hole; this is much easier to detach from the finger loop and is more secure.
  • Monofilament drawstring closure.

Stronger and more versatile:

  • We have strengthened the arms of the rod.
  • Since it is a little sturdier, the instrument can now be used to scoop, turn over and snare tissue.

  How these changes benefit you:

  • Superior product.
  • Fully recyclable – disposal costs have been reduced
  • Comprehensively tested to the highest possible safety standards.
